Our environment, and even our normal metabolic function, creates a large amount of oxidative molecules in our bodies every moment of our life. These molecules are called “free radicals” and “reactive oxygen species” or “ROS”. They essentially sand-blast our cells, constantly degrading their structure and function. Many people do not intake adequate antioxidants to defend against this constant attack, therefore promoting the degenerative changes associated with aging.
Antioxidants come in many foods, oranges, kiwis etc. But there is one antioxidant that is called the “Master Antioxidant” in our bodies, Glutathione. This amazing molecule is made in our bodies from glycine, cysteine and glutamate. So it’s endogenous, or comes from within. The problem is, we don’t always make enough, and like so many things, we make less and less as we age. Compounding this natural deficiency, our lifestyle, diet and environment add more and more demand on the antioxidant system by creation of free radicals from inflammation and other oxidative processes. Thankfully, we can supplement with glutathione. However, normal L-glutathione and reduced glutathione are fragile molecules that don’t survive our stomach acid. As a result, one must take S-Acetyl L-Glutathione. The Acetyl “group” essentially protects the glutathione molecule until it’s ready to be absorbed in the intestines. Glutathione is a cornerstone supplement, and although the S-Acetyl form is not inexpensive, it is well worth the cost. Glutathione is important for a multitude of functions in the body, most importantly immune function, neurocognitive function, skin health and much much more.
Most antioxidants in the body work in a similar fashion, they quench molecules that are “reactive”, that is molecules that want to steal electrons from other molecules to balance themselves energetically. Glutathione also participates as the main molecule in the detoxification pathways of the body (in the liver) where it cycles back and forth between reduced and oxidized form. NOTE: oxidative stress, from free radicals, goes hand in hand with inflammation as one of the most powerful forces in aging, disease, and death.
When managing Oxidative Stress and Detoxification, it may be appropriate to add to therapeutic effects in specific areas, including:
-Additional Oxidative Stress support: Polyphenol-Max™️, Vitamin D3
-Additional anti-Inflammatory support: Ultra Curcumin™️
-Additional combination Inflammation/Oxidative Stress support: MetaVasc™️
